Boat Trailer Carpet Types

As mentioned a bunk style trailer uses a carpeted area normally of 2x4's or 2X6's that support the weight of the boat. A common bunk trailer is a two bunk trailer, each plant is positioned on either side normally half way between Chine (outside of the boat) and the keel or centre. Sometimes Bates will have a strake which can be used to help in guiding the boat onto the trailer when you are loading.

An important tip is not to position the trailer bunks too far from the centre as this will make it more difficult when you're Loading the boat as you will have difficulty keeping the boat centre.

If you do not take proper care of your carpet on your trailer bunk then it can wear down very quickly and mildew. The problem with this is that the delicate hull of your boat will be exposed to abrasive surfaces. When you come to replace your carpet it is also important that you check the wooden frame at the carpet is on for any Rusty Bolt's or screws for example and replace if necessary.

Make sure you trim your carpet to the correct size and laid across the runners from the boat trailer. You then need to screw the carpet in place from the bottom side. Make sure you use the carpet on this side so as not to run against the underside of your boat.
